Aviation Refuelers

Aviation fuel storage and dispensing is extremely demanding. One of the leading causes of aviation accidents is engine failure caused by contaminated fuel. It is critical to use aviation approved equipment for fueling.

For example, certain materials that are fine for diesel, can not be used in aviation fueling systems: cast iron, copper & galvanized steel. Plumbing should be stainless steel, although brass, bronze or ductile steel may be used with minimal exposure to fuel. Stainless steel is preferred, and all plumbing on our TransFueler Aviation refuelers is stainless steel.

Aviation grade pumps, nozzles, etc., all have higher grade seals than used with automotive fuels. Fuel hose for aviation use is also specific, designed not to degrade and shed rubber particles into the fuel.

We use Velcon & Facet aviation filtration systems, the standards of the industry.  We also primarily use GPI aviation approved pumps, though a few other approved pumps are also available.

Got Gas?

Gasoline is by far the most restrictive fuel to store and transport.  This is because it's the most flammable of commonly used fuels.

Federal law requires a DOT 406 tank to be used when carrying over 119 gallons of any gasoline product. This includes aviation gas, automotive gas, etc. Below is the primary section outlining this:

A specific tank is required per CFR49 Parts 100 to 185 transportation, for the transport of gasoline in a bulk container. (Greater than 119 gallons.)

Due to the flash point of gasoline, this tank falls into the category of Class III Fuels that is REQUIRED to be transported in a Code DOT 406 vessel. If this tank will hold gasoline, the tank is required to meet DOT 406 Specifications, be labeled accordingly and be annually tested per CFR 49 requirements. Gasoline has a Flash Point of -40`F, which is lower than the 100`F for Class III Fuels to be included in the “non-code” section of this provision for Class III Fuels.

DOT406 Tanks meet the requirements of 49 CFR Ch. I (10-1-07 Edition) §172.102, B1 and 49 CFR Ch. I (10-1-07Edition) §173.242,Bulk Packaging for Certain Medium Hazard Liquids and Solids, including solids with dual hazards.

Only DOT406 specification tanks meet Federal regulations for the transport of Gasoline over public lands or roadways.

Truth in Advertising?

Quality Fuel Trailer and Tank is a family owned and run business.  Our TransFueler brand is our pride & joy.  So we're pretty careful about making sure that everything about it is done right; to ensure safe, reliable and legal use.

We've gone to great lengths in researching all aspects of mobile fuel trailers, and are confident there does not exist a finer product.

Unfortunately, some of our competitors care more about increasing sales than providing a good product.

One company straps a tank on a hardware store trailer and represents it as a legal fuel trailer. There are a myriad of problems with their units, such as no brakes, inadequate chassis and suspension, tiny wheels, and virtually no safety measures. However, they do sell a number of trailers because they appear to be the cheapest.  In our experienced opinion, these trailers are barely capable of safely transporting water, much less fuel of any sort. Yet, their manufacturer insists they are perfectly legal to transport diesel, gas, aviation fuels, etc.

Another company goes so far as to claim their trailers are DOT406 compliant, when in fact they are not.  DOT 406 is a federal regulation pertaining to the transport of flammable materials, specifically gasoline. A genuine DOT 406 unit is considerably more expensive than a standard tank, because it is much more technologically complex.  The truth is, there are only three companies selling real DOT 406 fuel trailers, and the company we're referring to is not one of them...

Below is a photo of a genuine DOT 406 trailer. If you see one advertised that doesn't look similar, beware...

The trailer above has: engineered roll-over rails, with all top equipment not protruding above. Internal fuel cutoff valve, with remote operator, several other features that make it a real DOT 406 unit.

How can you tell if the unit you're looking at is really a DOT 406 legal one? All genuine DOT 406 tanks have a data plate specifying their DOT 406 certification. The plate will have a serial number, as well as tank capacity, etc. If a tank does NOT have this DOT data plate, it's NOT a DOT 406 certified tank.

Don't be fooled by imitators.  Quality Fuel Trailer and Tank will sell you the right trailer for your use...

The Original, the Real Deal...

The mobile fuel trailer world is fairly small. We consider ourselves to have only a handful of real competitors.  There are three or four builders of high quality fuel trailers in the country, a bunch of lower end, "me too" builders, and one absolutely terrible builder.

The TransFueler line is a result of years of experience in mobile fueling.  We've sold trailers from several different manufacturers over the years, and know the difference between a good value, and a poor one.

Our philosophy is to build the highest quality refueler, and offer the widest choice of options at a fair price.

What are some things that differentiate us?  First off, we are the only company that offers a real choice.  We've got our own brand; the original TransFueler, and we also carry several other solid products as well.  Choices.  We realize that different problems need different solutions.  To meet virtually any fueling needs, we offer the additional choices of the TransCube, LubeMate, and several choices of stationary fuel storage tanks as well.  Each of these represent the state of the art in their respective specialties.

What we don't offer is a bottom end, cheapo unit.  That segment of the market is currently served by a competitor or two who target those not interested in a quality refueler.  Let's address this, considering that you, the reader is probably not involved in our industry, and simply may not readily recognize an inferior unit.

What constitutes a subpar fuel trailer?  Here are things to look for:
  • Skimpy trailer chassis. This is the foundation, and needs to be strong enough to hold up under tough conditions.
  • No brakes.  Federal law requires brakes on every trailer transporting fuel.
  • Small wheels & tires.  Often not rated to support the weight of a loaded trailer.
  • No decking. Some trailers simply have the tank mounted directly to the chassis. This creates stress on the tank as the chassis flexes. any good trailer will have the tank mounted to a deck on top of the chassis.
  • Strap mounting.  This is hard to believe, but true. One competitor actually uses a strap to mount their tank to the trailer chassis. They also do not include brakes, and use a woefully inadequate trailer chassis with very small wheels.                                       Yep, they're the cheapest...
  • Subpar, econo hardware, pumps, vents, etc. any quality manufacturer uses quality hardware and components.
  • Nickle & diming the customer. Every one of our TransFuelers come fully equipped, ready to transport & dispense fuel. Our lowest price units have quality GPI & Fill-Rite pumps, UL hoses, Morrison vents, valves, etc. The cheapest and most expensive TransFuelers are all built to the same high standards.
You DO get what you pay for.  We believe in offering quality at a fair price.

The TransFueler Difference

The TransFueler Difference

Design

Exclusive Ultra-Frame design
Starts with a heavy-duty steel channel chassis. We use a triple beam tongue which extends far back to the mid section of the trailer. This affords maximum strength and stability when towing. To that we add a full box channel frame / deck assembly. This evenly spreads the load between the triple beam tongue, and the axles, creating the most robust fuel trailer
chassis available. Our chassis have far more steel than the competition.
Look at photos of each; you’ll see the difference clearly. Theirs simply bolt a basic tank to a basic frame.

Double seam welded tanks
Our tanks are all built to a high standard, exceeding industry standards for baffles and welds. Safe & secure.

Exclusive cushioned tank mounts
Our tanks are both rubber pad and spring mounted to reduce vibration. This dramatically lessens the chance of leakage, and increases tank life.

Engineered for safety
Every TransFueler model is designed with safety foremost. Our trailers are designed to tow well either full of fuel or empty. Extra long tongues add to easy towing and stability. Each model has a beefy steel rear bumper to protect the tank. Electric brakes are standard on every trailer as well as a safety breakaway system which automatically applies full braking in case of disconnect from tow vehicle.

Quality

Every TransFueler is built in a clean, green factory within tight tolerances.

 Our highly experienced fabricators use state-of-the-art laser guided automatic welders ensuring a perfect weld every time.

 Steel is cut with a precision plasma cutter. Waste is minimized, accuracy is maximized.

 Tanks & trailers are built in house, ensuring consistent quality.

 Completed fuel trailers are high temp powder coated. Right in the shop, using the finest DuPont industrial coatings.

 Every TransFueler undergoes rigorous quality inspections throughout the fabrication process.

 TransFuelers are Made in the USA, with materials and parts sourced here, by people who are legally authorized to work here.

Support American manufacturing.

TransFueler offers greater choice than any competitor.
Choose from:
 Diesel
 BioDiesel
 Gasoline
 Jet Fuels (Jet A, JP8, etc)
 Avgas
 Steel Tanks
 Aluminum Tanks
 Stainless Steel Tanks
Exclusive Combo Tanks: Inner Tank Stainless Steel, Outer Tank Steel
 DOT406 Certified tanks, available in steel, stainless steel or aluminum

Many, many other choices of equipment, configuration & options…

Experience

TransFueler mobile refuelers are in service with every branch of the U.S. military, as well as many other federal agencies. We’ve built trailers for dozens of state and local agencies, Fortune 500 companies, and small businesses.

TransFuelers can be found in almost every state, several U.S. Territories, and quite a number of other countries too, from Antarctica to Afghanistan. We have built models in all types of configurations, from rocket fuel to used waste oil.
You could say we’ve seen it all, and done it all.
We would have no problem building a unit to suit your unique needs.

Service

We don’t typically keep a large stock of standard units waiting to be sold. Over the years, we have found that most customers want something specific to their needs. Instead of only offering one or two standard units, we build each trailer exactly the way you need it. We believe it’s your trailer, and you should get what you need.
That said, everything is built by humans. Sometimes, (fortunately rarely) issues do arise.

Our warranty policy is unique in the industry. We realize it’s not a simple matter to ship the trailer back to the factory for service or repairs. Most problems are simple matters, typically only needing a small seal to be replaced or similar. During the 12 month warranty period, we will send needed parts to you, or we will arrange to have a local petroleum service contractor come fix the trailer. This results in needed repairs being accomplished far more quickly than sending a component back to us to replace.

Real world: we’ll work with you to get your TransFueler back in service ASAP.

TransFueler

Welcome to our brand new blog.

We hope to provide meaningful information on mobile fueling, fuel storage, etc.  News and info on our terrific TransFueler products, as well as general fuel transport & storage.

First, a bit about our company, who we are, and why we think TransFueler is simply the best.

We launched Advanced Fuel Systems in early 2007, as authorized distributors of several lines of storage tanks, dispensing equipment, and fuel management systems.  Our strategy since day one has been to be a very lean organization.  Instead of buying traditional print advertising, our sole method of marketing has been via the internet. We also do not cold call potential buyers, I don't like being cold called, and I doubt you do either...

Our philosophy is that we would prefer our customers to choose to buy from us because we present an excellent product at a fair price.  We don't "sell", we provide solid solutions. That means you won't get bombarded by endless pitches or nagging salesmen.  Our consistent growth since founding the company, shows us that philosophy is working.

Back to our history;
Early on, we attended a trade show in Las Vegas.  There we saw something that intrigued us, that neither of us had seen before. It was a tank on a trailer, a mobile refueler.  Not a big semi-trailer that you see refilling gas stations, but a somewhat smaller unit. We approached the guys manning the booth, and before long we were sold on this concept. We signed up to be regional distributors, and set about to market this product on our website.

Unfortunately, while this first mobile fuel trailer we ran across was a good product, it was priced far too high.  We just could not attract buyers because of price resistance.  That led us to further explore the marketplace for a more suitable supplier.

We found a small shop in the Midwest that was selling a quality product, at a better price. They took us on as a dealer, and soon we became their exclusive western region distributor. As the years progressed, we refined our vision of what a fuel trailer should be.  We picked up a couple additional lines of tanks & trailers, including the terrific TransCube product.

Subsequently, the decision was made to develop our own brand of mobile refuelers, and the TransFueler line was born. We still believe that one size does not fit all, and continue to represent two other select fuel trailer brands as well.  This allows us to offer the widest selection of mobile refueling choices anywhere. We will provide you with the best total solution to your mobile fueling needs, not just what we make ourselves.

Since creating our own TransFueler line, sales have continued to grow. We still sell quite a number of stationary fuel storage tanks, as well as fuel management systems.
